The Biodiversity Surrounding Us

Today, we want to dedicate a space to an attribute that sets us apart in sustainability and environmental care: biodiversity. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) website, biodiversity is the variety of ecosystems and life on Earth. Furthermore, it acknowledges the fundamental role of humans in preserving it.

At Hotel Zuana, we protect local ecosystems, allowing for a harmonious coexistence between tourism and nature. As part of our Blue Flag environmental eco-label, we have environmental education programs that help to conservatively maintain our beaches, flora, and fauna.

Among the species that our visitors most enjoy seeing flying or walking around are:

  • Rock Pigeon: It is the wild ancestor of the domestic pigeon and bears a very similar appearance to the typical form of these birds.
  • Blue-crowned Motmot: This bird is representative of the Colombian Caribbean with its iridescent blue color. Its song is a mixture of loud and strident sounds that can be heard several hundred meters away, serving as a means of communication with other members of its species.
  • Iguana: Iguanas are an indispensable component of the country's biodiversity, of great ecological importance for their contribution to the ecosystem's balance during the seed germination and dispersion process.

We also have a wide variety of tree zones, such as:

  • Christmas Palm: Commonly known as the Christmas palm due to its red fruit that ripens in winter. It is a very elegant palm tree, both for its foliage and the colorful red fruits during ripening. It tolerates the sun and subtropical climate.
  • Royal Palm: Helps regulate the climate. The areas where it is found are less hot, and it provides a substrate for endemic orchids.
  • Boston Fern or Macho Fern: It has long, arched fronds that unfold in an attractive and undulating pattern, adding a sense of freshness and vitality to any space. Its intensely bright green leaves bring a touch of exoticism and elegance.
  • Dwarf Coral Tree: It is a small bush with numerous clusters of rounded flowers that remain in compound umbels almost all year round. Being a highly branched plant, it tolerates intensive pruning, making it ideal for developing hedges of curious and interesting shapes.

This commitment to biodiversity not only enhances the experience of our guests but also contributes to environmental conservation and education about the importance of protecting our planet.
